This Hand Has Three Fingers: Max Justus, TK Webb & The Visions, These United States

If you’re in a hankering for some lugubrious, instrumental, old-school blooping electronic grooves, Max Justus’s Seven might be the man to get it done. With backbeats steadier than the Rock of Gibraltar, synth pads glowing like sharp, glittering neon, and keystrikes coming at you like laser beams, it’s your smooth, sunglasses-at-night theme for whenever it’s just you against the naked city.

Okay, so maybe you’re more in he mood for something along the lines of a bluesy rock out? You know, something which feels whiskey induced and isn’t performed by a fresh-faced angel-haired parvenu? TK Webb’s most definitely your man, with this incredible song which is so gritty, you can almost see the dusty sand clouds pufting around it. Once the awesome kicks in at 3:43 for a particular hefty and massive outro, you’ll know that this was the real deal.

So when I hit up “These United States” and “Crimes” (the title of their new CD) in Google, it returned about 152,000 results. Now the search engine, always looking out for your typos (so you don’t have to), asked me” “Did you mean: ‘the united states’ crimes” accompanied by a link directing me to the new search. For kicks, I did hit the link, and the search for “the united states” and “crimes” returned 27,600,000 results. Sad? Disturbing? Perhaps, but personally, I foresee this as an omen for the kinds of results These United States will receive as a band if they keep churning out great alt-country like with West Won.
