This Hand Has Three Fingers: Plushgun, Golden Bloom, ¡Forward, Russia!
Ed. note: The original post has been edited to refer to Shawn Fogel as Golden Bloom, Fogel’s new performing monicker.
Plushgun - Just Impolite
You know, I bet Judith Martin would have some fine advice to give Plushgun, who apparently needs to know how often you can call a girl before you break all social conventions and come across as Just Impolite. But we will forgive him for any etiquette breaches he may have done, considering this wonderful, fuzzy, and humble little song he let adrift into the world. Full of soul and meek charm, you won’t regret letting this one eek its way through your soundsystem.
Golden Bloom – The Fight At The End Of The Tunnel
If I were to have a near-death experience, and I encountered that light at the end of a dark tunnel, you can be damned sure that I would go away from the light and not into it. However, would there be a fight, I’d be curious enough to go check it out. And start taking bets. That said, I am inclined to Golden Bloom’s The Fight At The End Of The Tunnel, which is a grower of a pop-rock song, starting off as a low-key bluesy affair, which gradually burgeons, through dextrous instrumentation and masterful textures, to an all-out guitars eruption, riffs ablaze with epilogue might.
¡Forward, Russia! - Breaking Standing
There’s something inherently awkward when writing about a band which has just broken up. It’s like having to give an oral report about your pet hamster the day after it died. But, despite the fact that ¡Forward, Russia! have gone their own ways on hiatus, there is no reason why Breaking Standing, from their recently North American-released Life Processes, shouldn’t be added to your music collection for all its energetic, eager, enigmatic self. And besides, I always wanted to write ¡FФЯWДЯD, RUSSIД!.

To be honest, I really didn’t know that Forward Russia had broken up…or had gone on hiatus, or whatever you want to call it.
The band’s first album was pretty good but I don’t think I gave Breaking Standing much of a try - maybe its time to revisit it.
