This Hand Has Three Fingers: Sinkane, Jaguar Love, Motel Motel
Hey! It’s a special “Let’s Catch Up!” edition of This Hand Has Three Fingers! Let’s go listen to some new stuff from some folks whom I’ve previously written about…
Sinkane - Color Voice
When I last wrote about Sinkane, he was about to join Caribou on tour as his drummer. Now, he’s got a full-time part percussin’ it up in of Montreal’s live acts. All great stuff for the Sudan native, but it kind of distracts from the fact that he has his own album out, doesn’t it? However, thanks to an appropriate release of the song Color Voice (title track from said album), we are reminded of his chugging, throbbing, aerialist work, which is more-than-deserving of its own level of attention.
Jaguar Love - Highways Of Gold
I got pretty enthusiastic at the prospect of Jaguar Love’s upcoming first release, hoping that the strength of that first glimpse of their upcoming LP would be emblematic to the whole of album. Now, we have Highways Of Gold to drool unmanageably over, featuring some hazardously speeding, megaton force instrumentation, with Johnny Whintey’s fierce vocals at the forefront, cutting down everything in a lightspeed hurtle, easily avoiding any and all P.I.T. maneuvers in its path.
Motel Motel - Harlem
When I last checked in with the gang from Motel Motel, they were prepping for the release of their first album, with Virginia Kids shining at the forefront of their compositions. Now, the album, entitled New Denver has been released in all its DIY glory, and we are treated to a new tune entitled Harlem, a beautifully aching narrative, finding its swelling melody guided by a ensemble of reflective strings, and using the stinging heartache of country ballads to twist your heart into a knot.
