Don't make them go medieval
If there’s anything I’ve learned in the past couple of days, it’s this one thing: don’t fuck with the Knights Templar.
Listen, these are the guys who went off fighting in the Crusades and liberated the Holy Land from the heathens, who founded European banking, and who were charged with taking care of the Holy Grail, for Pete’s sake. Wasn’t it kind of dumb to think that they would just sit back and let themselves be branded as sodomites for all of eternity? Wasn’t kind of small-minded to believe that they would just let their leaders be burned at the stake? Okay, so it took them seven hundred years to fight back, but the point is that they’re donning their armour and swords again and taking the fight to the battlefield of the modern era: the courts.
If Pope Ben thinks he’s going to be able to squirm out of Pope Clement IV’s gaffe without an inquisition, like I said before, he’s going to learn he shouldn’t fuck with the Templars. Let me warn you, from the moment those cutting guitar licks become full-on serrated by way of those whetting, stoked up drums, wickedly clustered to tear asunder the very fabric of sound, you will know better than to try and mess with these guys’ musical intrepidity; not to mention wonder how you’re going to make it another four weeks without entertaining the other songs which accompany this will-crushing sonic volley. They tie in with fierce abandonment the grit of garage rock with the swagger of a country barnburner to remind us just how loud, how lusty, and how visceral it is possible to rock to. Watch this song end up on many a “top” list at the end of the year.
