Apollo Sunshine

September tidings

coverart-apollosunshine.jpgIs it a little defeatist to be thinking about September when Summer hasn’t really officially begun yet? In that respect, any intelligent human being would nod wildly: yes, it is kind of defeatist. But there’s already so many things to be looking forward to in September. I mean, you know, there’s… well… Labour Day… oh, and the new Coens Brothers movie will be coming out then… and… let’s see… what else… Apollo Sunshine has their new CD, Shall Noise Upon, stacked for a release over yon! Of course, the boys will have already released for download in August, so the physical format release is a little anticlimactic…

Okay, fine, so there’s not much to look forward to in September. We can then just prefer to live in the moment and enjoy the first taste of Apollo Sunshine’s upcoming release with their noticeably long title’d song 666: The Coming of The New World Government. It’s another perfectly psychedelic pop offering from the boys from Leverett, groovy and daringly spacey, which wastes no time in setting a motivating impulse with vibrating, ultra-hooky guitars, sliding between moments of temperate percolation to slicing streaks of harmonious grandeur. The song swings and bends, never loses its thrust thanks to its rustling percussions and elastic bassline. There’s this definite airiness to it, but not in a blue skies, white clouds, warm breeze against your face sense. No, it’s more along the lines of hurtling through neon jets in a purple sky with cosmic sprinkles zooming past your face.

Thank goodness we don’t have to wait till September to hear the rest!
