Anthem In

Following up on the dress suit debacle

coverart-anthemin.jpgIn case you were wondering why I was in a suit yesterday, it’s because the company I work for was nominated for an award for a video we made last year. It was a government-commissioned video which was used to promote some program of some sort. As far as corporate videos go, this one was really cool and fun to do. Great team we had on that shoot.

We lost, though; which wouldn’t have been so bad had the complimentary celebratory wine afterwards not taste like Fun Dip and vinegar. It was terrible. Gave me an upset stomach. Usually, wine never upsets anything on me. But this was unusual wine. Even made my head spin.

Down by Anthem In also made my head spin, what with its special intoxicating pop qualities, soaring in from nowhere and into our grateful ear canals in true sleeper fashion. It’s head spinning in the good sense, as the song whirls around and into your pleasure crevasses without delay, maintaining harmonic poise between its dreamy dulcet affinity and its crunchy guitar backbone. Said guitars have enough power to counterbalance Allen Orr’s soft, cozy voice, giving a surprising amount of power to such melodious dreampop, with a twist of wurlizter for extra texture. This, I can stomach.
