The Lodger

Themes emerge where there was once none

coverart-thelodger.jpgBlame it on the sunshine, blame it on being the first day of May, but it seems as though all the music I’m listening to has very sunshiny ways about them. And it’s affecting my choices for the blog today. I already wrote about The Little Ones and their blue sky wondertune, and now this next one has “summer song” tattooed all over it, so I guess I have a theme going today which just spontaneously popped into reality; might as well just roll with it, shouldn’t I?

Well then, ahem, here we go with the next entry in our special “Songs For Your Summer Days” edition of A Limerick Ox.

Lap steel guitar gets its disco on with The Good Old Days by The Lodger, a jangling, stick-to-you, frolic of a pop song, straight out of the UK to help add even more shine to your day. Smartly built around a solid bassline and frantic, shiny guitar chords, the funky, grin-inducing composition bustles into our love-places, unapologetically using shiny synth bursts and high-pitched dual-syllabic choruses in true pop fashion. Beware, gentle reader, for even if the song’s deceitful simplicity comes from its vast sugary garnish of punchy moments, they are cleverly orchestrated to avoid feeling syrupy or heavy-handed.

Yes, it is the perfect compliment for your joyful Summer days, which is why it is a part of our “Songs For Your Summer Days” special, which I just made up a few moments ago.
