Lykke Li
For your Warren Ellis consideration
Everybody likes a good endorsement. Who doesn’t enjoy seeing which superstar athlete received enough obscene amounts of cash to hawk a product? Or which politician Oprah will order her hordes of minions viewers to throw their support behind?
In that logic, it isn’t much of a stretch that Warren Ellis would himself endorse a music artist. After all, he’s somewhat well-known, he’s got a decent following, he’s got a fair amount of clout. Surely there are some people who are ready to take his suggestions to heart. Turns out he’s got taste, too. He recently put in a good word on his blog for 21 year-old Swedish singer-songwriter Lykke Li and her song Dance Dance Dance. Ellis says it’s “[n]ervous, hopping and febrile and fragile to start off with, but the echoing isolated opening builds up a beautiful force.”
Wow, Warren, if that science-fiction writing gig doesn’t work out, you may have a future in music blogging.
Now if we expanded on his spot-on assessment of Lykke Li’s addictive tune, the “beautiful force” the song builds up to is driven by playfully restrained guitar picking and some wistful percussion work, giving the song a breezy tenderness, a charmingly impish glow whose endearing quality grows with exponential force in no small part due to the control in the song’s musical delivery. It’s an absolute delight of a song which will please your need for interesting, daring pop. Just like Warren Ellis. Warren Ellis likes daring pop.
So be like Warren Ellis and download an MP3 of Dance Dance Dance today! Warren Ellis will thank you for it.
