You can tell a lot from a person by sleeping with them. I don’t mean “sleeping with them” in the sense of having sexual intercourse; I mean by literally sharing the same bed and dozing off for a few hours of rest. You can tell a lot about someone’s personality by how they conduct themselves when they have no conscious control over their actions.

We all move when we sleep, unconsciously shifting around to get into the best possible position to ensure we continue sleeping undisturbed; and what someone does in these circumstances is very telling. In my experience, hogging up all the bedsheets is distinctive of a very selfish personality. Someone who twists the sheets around into a mess is a sign of a confused, distraught individual. What about occupying the largest amount of mattress surface possible? Don’t bother wondering who’s the dominant force between the both of you!

If Cut Copy was a person, and if I slept in the same bed as Cut Copy, Cut Copy would most likely be the kind to ensure you always remained bundled adequately and had all the blanketage you required. After all, they were generous enough to share an extraordinary new song entitled Lights And Music with us. It thrives in those new wave alienation throes which still seem to be very à propos these days.

But under its disaffected, dilettante exterior beats an absolutely outstanding track which embraces all the great elements of electronic music with just a hint of the organic to make it feel more alive than alive. The song reaches the pinnacle of playful synths, all the while churning an inviting, undulating bassline, coming together in true slow burn fashion as it slowly rises into a euphoria of electronic joy. Smartly lodged within are momentum-building guitar hooks which splice their way into this arcadia of techno, providing the song its enticing flesh-and-blood expectancy of the soaring, panoptic chorus.
