Indian Jewelry

They're all out to get you

coverart-indianjewelry.jpgForty per cent of us are paranoid.

Astonishing, isn’t it? It throttles the imagination to think that almost half of us feel that someone is out to get us, that we are being watched, that we are the target of someone’s displeasure. It appears that we are growing more and more suspicious of people around us and the simple reactions they have.

I am no exception in this matter, for I find myself deeply suspicious of Indian Jewelry. No, not metallic costume apparel which originates from India, but rather the droning electronic band from Texas. They’ve come up with a song entitled Temporary Famine Ship whose hypnotic nature is so subversive, there must be other forces at work here. The middle eastern effected-out guitar snakes its way into your ears, while the background purr is noticeably designed to keep rubbing up against you; turning away is not an option, the trance is complete and mind-shaping. In fact, you’re compelled to keep your ear apparatus glued to its noise, its alluringly off-center arrangements, its uneven, distorted synth work, its unconventional swaying primal essence.

Then, the song ends, and you’re urged to play it again. And again. Why is that? Why can’t I stop? I’ll tell you why: for reasons most sinister…
