the priddle concern
Lip sync is not an option
So it turns out that Pavarotti’s final performance in 2006 was lip sync’d. Yup, faked the whole thing all the way through. Wow, who’d-a-thought the tenor would posthumously join a group whose peers include Milli Vanelli and Ashlee Simpson?
Okay, so the legendary singer was riddled with cancer and this was the best way to have him bow out in glory, so it’s kind of unfair to associate him with those other two. After all, Milli Vanelli only did it as a quick way to get laid, while Ashlee Simpson did it because she’s a brat. But the point is that everyone who lip syncs has a reason to do it.
That said, I can’t see any reason why Bill Priddle would ever lip sync under the guise of his new project, the priddle concern. For a such a touching song like Back Around to work, he needs to tap into the authenticity of the moment, the very nature of the song. It’s a lovely, bittersweet composition whose strength lies in its aching intimacy. Priddle’s downtrodden vocals seem to breathe off the life of his guitar’s yearning chords, while abated horns tauntingly give hope for better times which will never come. Broken Social Scene-ster and Stars vocalist Amy Millan joins in to support Priddle in the last legs of the song, coming full circle with this moment of tender fragility and hungered longing.
Honestly, the lip sync’ers shouldn’t even save him a seat at their clubhouse. They have a clubhouse, you know.
