The Billonaires

Already done with summer?

coverart-thebillionaires.jpgThere has to be something seriously wrong with me.

In the presque three months into this piece of web estate, I have been repeatedly pining for warmer weather to melt the debilitating grasp of winter with the redundant fervor of an old man hanging out at the videopoker machines. I’m made it unbearably clear that I’m done with snow, I’m done with ice, and I want, nay, I need green grass on the ground and green leaves in the trees.

So what the hell am I doing writing about a song entitled The End Of Summer Song? Am I a sucker for punishment? Am I that desperate for self-flagellation? Do I not want to be happy? What kind of bi-polar flip-flopping manic swapping is this?

Well it turns out that The Billionaires’ The End Of Summer Song is a tribute to the frivolous joys and pleasures of summer. No, it’s not an anxiety-charged anticipation of how sad things will be once Labour Day stomps all over our dog days. The song instead heralds the spontaneous, carefree escapism which accompanies the freedoms inherent to the season. And it’s all executed in a sugary guitar-pop coating, light, casual and insouciant, its catchy chorus elevated by synthpop-friendly keys and co-ed vocals which often join into enthusiastic shouts.

So there’s really nothing wrong with me. In fact, if anything, thinking about the end is just making me want it more.
