Bridges And Powerlines

Making my ladybugs happy

coverart-bridgespowerlines.jpgI am a protector of ladybugs. I take great strides in ensuring the diminutive, benevolent beetles are defended from harm.

My home, for some peculiar reason, is a virtual breeding ground for the little insects. It’s almost as if I were a rancher. At certain periods during the year, dozens of ladybugs can be seen in my home, crawling around. I’ve yet to find out why, but I’m not really looking. Ispo facto, I’ve developed a certain attachment to the species, so whenever I find some, I look out for them.

Thus, yesterday, amidst my discombobulation by the first day of Spring being submerged in snow, I saw a sole ladybug hotfooting it across the floor. It didn’t occur to me how peculiar a sight it was considering it all, since my natural ladybug-loving reflex had me help it off the ground and place it in one of my plants, whose heavily garnished leafage would, more than likely, make it feel comfortable (naive, I know; bite me).

Then, like I usually do, I sliced a grape down the middle and gave one half to the bug, which climbed atop it and remained there for hours feeding off it. Cucumber is also appreciated, in case you’re taking notes.

Now that it was all set, I decided upon a little music for it to dig into the fruit’s scrumptuous natural sugaryness. I figured Uncalibrated by Bridges And Powerlines was a perfect compliment to accompany such happy times. What with their synth driven, 1990s alt-poppy effervescence reminiscent of Hellogoodbye, and with the harmonic depth and upbeat un-saccharine texture which fans of Malajube will no doubt appreciate, that ladybug was in a for a sonic treat. Truth be told, the little bug is still around today.

Turns out my first day of Spring wasn’t so depressing.
