The Sound of Arrows
Where the hell is Spring?
Hey, everybody! Guess what? It’s Spring! Today is the first day of Spring! At least, that’s what I’ve been told. That’s what’s been hyped. That’s what everyone on the news is telling me. That’s what they want me to believe. “It’s the beginning of Spring, fairer weather is at our doorstep,” it’s a lot of talk. Oh yeah? Riddle me this, then: if it’s such a day of Spring today, then how come I look out my window and see this:

Does that look like Spring to you? Does it look like migratory birds are sitting on tree branches chiming in the changing of the seasons? Does it even remotely look like a setting that a warm, sunshiny afternoon can melt away in a matter of hours? No! Of course not! There is over four metres of snow on the ground, and there’s still more snow to fall today! But oh, all those little TV weather people, all perky, blonde haired, and mascara’d to the heavens giggle and make light of the situation. But through that thin veil of cheery-uppyness lies a dark purpose. To speak so openly about Spring with these types of landscapes is treacherous. It’s exactly as if someone, somewhere was trying to break our spirits.
Personally, I suspect the Taleban.
You know what I need? I need some bright Swedish pop to cheer me up. I’m going to go with The Sounds Of Arrows and their sprightly formulation of danceable, glossy music, both stupendously melodic and warmly endearing. Danger! has these playful bursts of 80’s new wavy-ness quirky synth jolts which surge into lively colourful tones. Yes, colour. The colours of Spring.
Sigh.
