Pacific UV
Musical inner turmoil
An artist friend of mine once told me that anxiety was like a corset. It clasps itself so tightly around you, you sometimes feel your lungs are in your throat and your heart is about to collapse. But enduring its constricted embrace often helps you find that coveted, shapely artistic form you so desperately need to feel relevant.
Post-rock slowcore purveyors Pacific UV have apparently laced one up themselves to bring us Longplay 2, the follow-up to their 2002 self-titled and acclaimed first album. You can tell with a song like Tremolo: a smooth, languid experience which teeters between the tender and the melancholy, where moments of wistful, sincere hope are overlayed by overwhelming gloom. The relaxingly calm exterior can barely hold face, as its quivering mass of uncertainty listlessly refuses to be held back. The droning melody, held together by heart-swelling guitars and earnest piano chords, gives way to an atmosphere as rich as it is touching.

Very, very nice. Although I believe you meant corset, not corsage.
