The Airfields

Your favourite porn substitute

coverart-theairfields.jpgFinishing a third bottle of wine during a sit-down dinner with friends can have consequences. As demonstrated by this muse which overcame one of my guests over the weekend:

“You know, porn has really lost a lot of its magic. I mean people who looked at porn back in the 70s and 80s had this moment of wonder, of awe, at the thought of the guy keeping himself hard and ready for an entire shoot. You know, think about all the scenes that were cut, think of all the shots and retakes to get all the cameras and lighting into position just to finish one scene, and you couldn’t help but humble yourself in front of these guys for their sheer tenacity. Now, any damn moron can pop a pill and be good to go for hours. There’s no skill in it anymore. There’s no craft. The magic’s gone.”

If you, gentle reader, feel the same as my friend does, may I suggest you try and reclaim some magic with help from The Airfields. And even though they have a CD named Up All Night they have nothing to do with pornography; my point is perhaps music from a promising Canadian-grown band based in Toronto can replace what you’re missing. In fact, The Airfields are an exciting dream pop concoction taking root in good old fashioned new wave sounds, mixing in some high calibre reverb-jangling guitar, slicing feedback and floaty synth pads. A few boy/girl harmonies done in perfect “apathetic cool” and you have yourself one sophisticated, charming piece of pop rock. There’s skill. There’s craft. There’s magic.

But, if all else fails, there are pills to help find magic too, you know.
