The Winks

Spirited music hides my love of trees

coverart-thewinks.jpgWhen I was younger, I wanted to be a giant. I wanted to be a giant for a very specific reason: I wanted to be able to swallow trees, whole. Evergreens, oak, sequoia, birch, it didn’t matter: one large, gaping, hungry open mouth and in it went.

Now before you go all Freudian on me, please allow me to deflect your attention to The Winks, a psychedelia-infused rock band from Vancouver who have quite the knack for giving us vivacious music thanks to an eclectic collection of instruments which give it its vibrant, living quality. Spirited, dynamic, relentlessly catchy and charmingly oddball, Todd MacDonald and Tyr Jami’s musical project has all the deserving qualities of your excited “Ooh! Ooh! They’re putting out a new album!” exclamations.

Now what were we talking about?

Yeah, I figured you’d forget.
