The Diggs
Or how to name a child after a virtue; a cool virtue
Do people still name their children after virtues? You know, like “Constance” or “Prudence” or “Hope.” I really dig the idea of naming one’s kid after a concept.
Had I been in a position where my input would have been possible, I would have asked my parents to name me “Intrepid.” While we could argue that it’s not technically a virtue, you have to appreciate the strength and rhythm the name has. Like “Careen.” Short, punchy, sounds great, but you probably doom your child to being unable make up his-or-her mind, flip-flopping between ideas without being convinced of a direct line of action.
Then again, you could console yourself in the idea that you named your child after an excellent song by The Diggs, whose 1990s inspired rock takes a melodic, thoughtful and relentless approach to give us a bouncy, catchy, yet intense moment of music pleasure.
Also, English speakers who try to pronounce the French name “Karine” often end up sounding like they’re saying “careen.” WOW

You’re the first person I know of to make the connection between the pronunciation of the song and the name…well done. There is also “Corrine” which can be pronounced a number of different ways, but most notably pronounced the same way as the song title in a certain author’s lesser known but highly tauted novels.

I know lots of Karines, whom I taunt by pronouncing their names with an English accent. Hilarity!
Oh, and did you just plug your book?

I’m not actually the author, just a fan of his work.
